Ο «Κυνόδοντας» υποψήφιος για Οσκαρ ξένης ταινίας

Η ταινία του Γ. Λάνθιμου είναι στις 5 υποψήφιες για το Οσκαρ ξένης ταινίας. Αυτή είναι η πρώτη φορά που ελληνική ταινία καταφέρνει να κερδίσει υποψηφιότητα καλύτερης ξένης ταινίας στα Όσκαρ, τα τελευταία 33 χρόνια.

Η πρώτη φορά που ελληνική ταινία προτάθηκε για Όσκαρ καλύτερης ξενόγλωσσης ήταν το 1963, με την "Ηλέκτρα" του Μιχάλη Κακογιάννη. Στην ίδια κατηγορία έχουν βρεθεί επίσης τα "Κόκκινα φανάρια" (1964)του Βασίλη Γεωργιάδη, όταν το βραβείο απέσπασε το "8 ½" του Φεντερίκο Φελίνι, "Το χώμα βάφτηκε κόκκινο" (1966), επίσης του Γεωργιάδη, και η "Ιφιγένεια" (1978) του Μιχάλη Κακογιάννη. 
Ο "Κυνόδοντας" αφορά σε μια ανορθόδοξη ελληνική οικογένεια όπου οι γονείς μεγαλώνουν τα παιδιά τους φυλακισμένα μέσα στο σπίτι για να μην επηρεάζονται από τον έξω κόσμο. Τους εξηγούν ότι θα είναι έτοιμα να βγουν έξω όταν πέσει ο ένας κυνόδοντάς τους.
Η ταινία κέρδισε το πρώτο βραβείο στο "Ενα κάποιο βλέμμα" του Φεστιβάλ των Κανών. Έχει επίσης διακριθεί στα Φεστιβάλ Dublin International Film Festival, Montréal Festival of New Cinema, Sarajevo Film Festival, Sitges - Catalonian International Film Festival, Stockholm Film Festival.
